“The Rotary Club of Agra has launched an initiative to educate schoolchildren about safe and unsafe touch, emphasizing personal safety as a fundamental right. The club is conducting workshops aimed at empowering children with essential self-protection knowledge.
President Namrata Panicker stressed the importance of integrating this information into school curricula, stating, “”It is essential that children are equipped to identify inappropriate behavior.”” To achieve this, the club has organized multiple workshops across Agra, aiming to prevent instances of sexual abuse.
Recently, the seventh workshop took place at Indrabhan Girls’ Inter College in Peepal Mandi, led by Advocate Namrata Mishra, an expert on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Through storytelling and relatable scenarios, she taught students to recognize safe versus unsafe touch and provided practical strategies for managing uncomfortable situations. Advocate Mishra also addressed the risks children face in the digital age, highlighting the dangers of sharing personal information online and the exploitation of social media by predators.
Dr. Padma Singh, the school’s principal, thanked the Rotary Club for organizing such an impactful session, noting its lasting influence on students’ safety awareness. The workshop included the distribution of informative posters on safe and unsafe touch, along with vital helpline numbers for children.”
